[The following text is to the right of the previous:
In t[-] Circuit Court of
the County of Saint Clair
Mis[--]s Territory. July. 1817]

And the said Pierre Chouteau being duly sworn in his
oath saith this August P. Chouteau is a [-----------]??
who is on trial N[--]trip  for him on the trial of this
case. — This said August P. Chouteau is the only
[---] br when he can prove the <demand> of the delivery of
the negro at the [---] is the plea men have &
and the neglect of said Defendants to Deliver the same
that said August P Cheateau [---]des out of
the [---] [---] of this court and there for he
bid h[--] here a Subpoena i put[---] to him
hi - [-]  Dr. De[---] because said August P Chouteau
has been absent  <in the Indian Country> since the last trial of this case
or than his Deposition could be taken n[---]
said August P. Cheateau is daily [-]pahd, and
he can have his testimony at the next term
of this Cou[--] — that this appria[---] is
made solely in order that he can obtain
the testimony ap[---], and for a full trial
and not for the purpose of b[--]ng the the said
Defendants – and this subpoena b[---]g  beleive
