The Dr came home and got to bed before an hour had passed from the time he was first called. Jan 23 - Tuesday moved every thing out of our room to have The carpet put down. it was done by five oclock in the afternoon. and we put back the furniture. carpet looks love ly. I thought at first it was a joke but found that it was true, how I dread the idea of having my comfortable, nice, little home. for the uncertainties of camp life. if the weather con- tinues fine, it will be pleasant but it is so doubtful. I fear the con- sequences. Monday Feb. 19th Nothing certain as yet of our leaving. must wait until tomorrow. for a courier from Gen. Crook. I do so dread to break up. Dr wants to go. Made our first camp at creek six miles from Agency. got in at 4 o'clock. Froom rode in advance about two miles. became disgusted, turned the command and went back. went into camp about two miles from Crook City. Ten miles from last camp. Sunday March 4th. very cold. started out for Deadwood. the wagons got into the hills on the ----- new page (MSS_SC_139_p057.jpg) Deadwood road and one turned over. run off the bridge. not a mile from the starting point. got on my riding habit and left the Am- bulance. to ride Charley. we started ahead and when within a mile of Deadwood an orderly rode by at a furious rate to stop the wagons. could not get a camp any where in or around Deadwood. but we pushed forward and went to the Custar House for our dinner. Then rode back about five miles. where the command was unable to move. went into Camp. 5 miles March 5th Monday.
